Although 1965 marks the beginning of Shirayuri as a four-year college, the roots of our foundation originate with the arrival of three French nuns to Japan in 1878. And for nearly one hundred and twenty years, the basis of our school's education has been placed in the gospel of Christ.
Through learning, we want our students to pursue truth, polish their intellect, learn to empathize with other, know the joys of serving others and deepen their awareness of the true beauty of all the natural things and happenings which surround them. In other words we have been striving to cultivate the kind of women who can understand each other, face situations with their own sense of judgement and volition in this ever-changing international society. Furthermore, we wish our college to become a haven where women can learn to place their trust in Providence. In addition, to further help advance Japan's high standard of education, we have established a graduate school for each of the four departments, and we will continue to put all of our efforts in enhancing education in the specialized fields.
