授業のねらいと達成目標
／Course Objectives		 This course aims to help students improve their speaking and listening skills, 
and to enable them to express themselves in English with confidence and ease. 
The students should have many opportunities to practice speaking English in 
class with both their classmates and their teachers. The classes will be taught 
in English, giving the students the opportunity to improve their listening skills 
as well.
授業概要
／Course description		 Oral Communication I is an intermediate course in English speaking and 
listening comprehension. The course will be taught by five different instructors 
using the same textbook. Each instructor will explain the procedures for his or 
her class during the first session.

第2回：Unit 1 - Food 1 (Street Food): READ the text, LISTEN TO the recording, 
             and TALK about food
第3回：Unit 1 - Food 2 (The Problem with Sugar): DISCUSS a problem and SAY 
             you agree or disagree
第4回：Unit 2 - Festivals 1 (Messy Festivals): READ the text, LISTEN TO the 
             recording, and TALK about festivals
第5回：Unit 2 - Festivals 2 (Festival in the Desert): MAKE and RESPOND TO 
             SUGGESTIONS
第6回：Review 1: DISCUSSIONS
第7回：Unit 3 - Cities 1 (Istanbul Walking Tour): READ the text, LISTEN TO the 
             recording, and TALK about your city
第8回：Unit 3 - Cities 2 (Bogota: Buses, Bicycles, and People): TALK about 
             problems
第9回：Unit 4 - Jobs 1 (Barrington Irving): READ the text, LISTEN TO the 
               recording, and TALK about jobs

準備学習・履修上の注意
／Notices		 Coming to class each week is important.  Students should expect to spend 3 to 4 hours outside of class for review and preparation for class each week.

Handouts will be distributed in class as necessary.
成績評価の方法
／Evaluation		 Each instructor will evaluate the students according to his or her own criteria.  
Evaluation will be based on participation and performance in class, improvement 
in speaking and listening ability and tests.

The method of evaluation may include presentations, interviews or group tests 
(80%). 
There will be a unified final written test toward the end of the semester (20%).
