| 授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives |
Many of the topics that were studied during the language portion of the second year seminar will be covered in depth in this class. By covering a wide range of topics, it is hoped that the students will find something that they would like to research for their senior theses. この授業は、ディプロマ・ポリシー「 専攻する言語や文学、文化について、特定の問題を掘り下げ、自ら調査、研究して考えをまとめることができる」に対応している。 |
| 授業概要 ／Course description |
Students will review, research and present the selected topics on a weekly basis to the entire class. Discussions will be held after each presentation. Students will be expected to write a paper at the end of the term. |

Week 1：Introductory Lesson, Selection of chapters for presentations, Week 2： Preparing a Presentation, The Origins of Language 1 Week 3：The Origins of Language 2 Week 4：Animals and Human Language Week 5：The Sounds of Language Week 6：The Sound Patterns of Language Week 7：Word Formation 1 Week 8：Word Formation 2 Week 9： Morphology Week 10：Grammar Week 11： Syntax Week 12：Semantics Week 13：Pragmatics Week 14：Discourse Analysis Week 15：Wrap up, Final papers due This syllabus is a guide to the course. It is not fixed and the pace will be adjusted as necessary. |

The classes will be conducted in English. Attendance and active participation are crucial to passing this course. Students should expect to spend 3 to 4 hours outside of class for review and preparation for class each week. 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |
