To learn about British society. The emphasis will be on the UK today, but we will also look at some historical background to see how Britain has become what it is today. Comparisons with Japan will be made when appropriate. 専攻する言語と文学、文化に関して、専門的な知見と技能を身につけている。 |
| 授業概要 ／Course description |
The course will introduce a variety of topics, starting from a basic "What is the UK?" through different aspects of society, such as the education system, tea culture, the role of cities and the countryside etc. The course will be conducted in English and students should be prepared to interact, ask and answer questions, complete worksheets, and discuss in English. The topics will be introduced through readings, based on the textbook, video and other visual materials, and mini-lectures. There will be short tests online after each of the topics. The schedule below is a guide only and may be changed, depending on class conditions. |

| 準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices |
Students will need to join the course site on the internet to access materials and announcements, and to submit presentation slides. This can be accessed through smartphones, tablets or computers. Homework: short readings to prepare topics; and review tests through the course site. Preparation and review will take about 4 hours per week. 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |

【評価方法】 Tests (50%). Presentation (20%). Short reaction reports (30%). 【評価基準】 Short tests after each topic. Active class participation, and contribution to group discussions is also important. 【課題（試験やレポート）に対するフィードバックの方法】 Instant online feedback is given after the tests. Further feedback will be given verbally on test topics and individual presentations. |
