On this course, you will learn some basic techniques used in translating Japanese texts into English and explore concepts unique to each entrepreneur's speeches. Through back translations from Japanese to English, we explore the differences in meaning between your translation and the textbook's translation. この授業はディプロマポリシー中の「異文化と自文化とを見渡す豊かな教養をもとに、多様な人々と協働し、対話する能力を身につけている。」に対応している。 |

Students will be expected to translate sections of the textbook both in class and at home.The language of instruction will be English and Japanese. |

Module I Getting the basics right in back translations In this module, we explore the basics in translating speeches. We do this by doing some timed translations in class and also by analyzing the discourse in the leader's speeches. We also interpret concepts and ideologies presented in the speeches. We also learn how to edit translations. Week 1 Shinya Yamanaka p.11 Week 2 Shinya Yamanaka p.13 Read the rest of Shinya Yamanaka's speech and also p.26-28 and make a list of the unique points about his speech. Week 3 Report about Shinya Yamanaka's speech Read the rest of Shinya Yamanaka's speech and also p.26-28 and make a list of the unique points about his speech. Week 4 Malala Yousafzai p.47 Week 5 Malala Yousafzai p.49 Report about Malala Yousafzai's speech Read the rest of Malala Yousafzai's speech and also p.60-62 and make a list of the unique points about his speech. Module 2: Analyzing different interpretations of texts In the group presentation of your translations, you will be asked to comment about the ideas presented in the speeches, as well as the analysis of the translations. You will be assigned a section from the textbook to translate and you must have it done in printed form and distribute it to the other students. 授業外学習（予習・復習・授業内で指示した課題への取り組み）には、1週間につき4時間を要する。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |

| 成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation |
【評価方法】 Evaluation will be based on attendance and participation (20%), Self-evaluation on adaptability to the new learning environment (10%) Translation portfolios (40%) and reports (30%). You have to score 60% overall to pass. 【評価基準】 You must submit all your translations on Manabacourse by Week 15.10% of the grade for portfolios will be deducted if submitted late. 【課題（試験やレポート）に対するフィードバックの方法】 課題などについて授業にて解説する |

Students will translate one page from the textbook each week. You will all have a group project assignment. Effective communication amongst the group members is important in this class. You will be required to do your work on a computer on Microsoft Word so that you can learn how to edit your work. Doing your translations on your mobile phone will not be sufficient to complete the course. |
