授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	- Build understanding of global society - Build comparison and analysis skills  - Recognize, explain and analyze differences in perspectives - Cooperation and communication in group work - Connect classroom learning to society
授業概要 ／Course description	This course is designed to introduce students to global history and the history of connections between countries and cultures through time and place. The focus of the first a, students will examine the evolution of social order, democracy, human rights, trade, colonization and contemporary international issues. Emphasis is placed on understanding diverse perspectives, analysing historical sources, and making connections to contemporary global issues.
授業計画（授業の形式、スケジュール等） ／Class schedule	Week 1: Introduction, the quest to make a better society Week 2: History of Ideas - social order, Hobbes Week 3: History of Ideas - rule by representatives, Locke Week 4: History of Ideas - rule by the people - Rousseau Week 5: History of Ideas - the people left out - Marx and workers Week 6: History of Ideas - Wollstonecraft and Women, Durkheim and the disaffected  Week 7: History of Ideas - rule by virtue Confucius, Week 8: History of Ideas - combining East and West, pragmatism, Lee Kuan Yew and Amratya Sen Week 9: History of Ideas – inclusivity and intersectionality, Amratya Sen and Bell Hook Week 10: From Philosophy to Practice and Nation Building Week 11: Sovereignty and the Japanese Constitutions Week 12: Sovereignty and its Application Week 13: Opium War Week 14: Internal and External Criticism Week 15: Contemporary examples.
準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	Students are expected to  - Come to class, and in the event of unavoidable absence, to notify the teacher prior to the lesson. - Do homework thoughtfully & thoroughly, as it forms the base of class discussion. - Work positively and co-operatively with classmates. - Be curious and questioning and interested. - Do research and write it up as a report 授業外学習（予習・復習・授業内で指示した課題への取り組み）には、1週間につき4時間を要する。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。
