授業のねらいと達成目標 /Course Objectives |
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the academic and basic research skills necessary to succeed in university while improving English proficiency in a practical manner. This class has the following learning goals for students: 1. Get to know classmates and respect them as individuals. 2. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background 3. Consolidate group work skills in English, applying them in practical research 4. Actively participate, discuss, and share with others. 5. Develop the ability to share and discuss opinions. 6. Improve analytical and critical thinking 7. Give reasoned opinions on contemporary and important issues. 8. Develop academic and research skills, including the ability to communicate the results of research |
授業概要 /Course description |
Students will take familiar topics that connect with their own experience and work on viewing them from new perspectives and thinking about different points of view. Students will develop their own ideas in communication with classmates, and work on being able to express themselves clearly. The course aims to prepare students to think critically and independently, conduct independent research, and manage their learning effectively. Students will set their own goals and work towards developing the skills necessary to succeed in university while developing basic research skills through group projects with real-world applications. |

Each lesson is built on the contents of the previous lesson. As such it is essential that students actively participate and do all of their prep and homework on time. If a student cannot attend class, she must contact the teacher in advance. The syllabus may change in consultation with students. In this course, students are expected to: 1. Come to each class well prepared and ready to discuss with classmates. 2. Maintain academic honesty and not commit plagiarism (see pages 35, 36, and 37 of the 学生生活ガイドブック for more information). 3. Use their best English and not use translation software (e.g., Google Translate, Deepl) or generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to complete assignments, except when specifically required. 4. Use a computer and the Internet to complete assignments as necessary. 5. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 6. Respect one another and the teacher. 7. Help create a positive classroom environment by participating actively and positively each week. 8. Do their best! Please contact me by email or through Google Classroom with any questions, concerns, or confusion. You can also make appointments for one-on-one consultation as necessary, in person or online through Google Meet. Generally, I am unavailable past 8:00 pm on weekdays, and unavailable over weekends and holidays.
