副題 ／SubTitle	Seminar in English B, 2nd Year: Developing Research Skills in English Literature
授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	The aim of this course is to prepare students for the intensive research required for junior and senior seminars and the graduation thesis, while improving English Proficiency. This class has the following learning goals for students: 1. Develop the ability to communicate respectfully. 2. Develop advanced ability to use English in university level classes. 3. Become comfortable sharing and discussing opinions and arguments. 4. Gain confidence in speaking about and understanding important and literary issues deeply. 5. Improve critical thinking skills. 6. Develop research skills and time management 7. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 8. Actively participate, discuss, and share with others.
授業概要 ／Course description	This course aims to prepare students for the in-depth research and independent, critical thinking required of third and fourth year seminar courses. Regardless of interest, all students should develop the skills required to succeed in their seminar of choice. Students will learn more deeply about research, why research is important, and about different methods of literary research.

準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	Each class is built upon the content of the previous lesson.  As such, it is essential that students actively participate and do all of their homework on time.  If a student cannot attend class, she must inform the teacher in advance. Based on individual and class progress as well as other factors, the weekly schedule is subject to change. In this course, students are expected to: 1. Come to each class well prepared and ready to work with classmates. 2. Maintain academic honesty and not commit plagiarism (see pages 35, 36, and 37 of the 学生生活ガイドブック for more information). 3. Use their best English and not use translation software (e.g., Google Translate, DeepL, Papago, etc.) or AI bots to complete assignments, except when specifically instructed to do so. 4. Use a computer and the internet to complete assignments as necessary. 5. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 6. Respect one another and the teacher. 7. Help create a positive classroom environment by participating actively and positively each week. 8. Always do their best! 成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation	[評価方法] 35% Manaba Course Homework  20% Mid-term Exam 20% Final Research Paper 10% Final Presentation 15% Active Participation, Pair Work, Peer Reviews, and other classwork. [評価基準] Assignments must be completed on time.  Assignments may be submitted late, but may receive a penalty deduction. Students must come to class prepared and actively participate every week.
