The aims of this course are: 1) developing fundamental skills of communication, which is to make your message easy to understand and 2) building relationship among class members. |
授業概要 /Course description |
Main class activities are small-group presentations. Through these activities, students will learn how to give a more efficient presentation in terms of language, content, manner (or delivery) and expressions including the use of visual aides. |

Week 1: Course Orientation, Self-introduction, Making self-check sheet Week 2: Body Message (Posture, Eye Contact), Show & Tell Week 3: Presentation Procedures (plan-prepare-practice-perform) Week 4: Description using photos, Explanation Week 5: Speech Practices (rhythm, intonation) Week 6: Read-aloud Presentation Week 7: Story Message (topic development, the introduction) Week 8: Story Message (the body: main ideas, supporting evidence) Week 9: Story Message (the conclusion, transition) Week 10: Visual Message (making slides), small presentation Week 11: Visual Message (efficient use of visual aides) Week 12: final presentation preparation Week 13: final presentation preparation & rehearsal Week 14: final presentations Week 15: reflections |

In a small-group presentation, students must actively listen to other students’ presentations to provide informative feedback for them. 授業外学習は、練習、復習、調べ等に多くの時間を必要とし、1週につき1時間程度を要する。 |

In class, students provide feedback for peers’ presentations. To do well in the class, students should prepare well, contribute to their groupwork positively, come to class each week, develop confidence, deliver well-structured and engaging speeches in English. |
