授業のねらいと達成目標
／Course Objectives		 We will explore language and culture and how they influence society and vice 
versa.  Students will be introduced to numerous themes under the big umbrella 
of languages and linguistics.  

この授業は、ディプロマ・ポリシー「専攻する言語と文学、文化に関して、専門的な知見と技能を身につけている」に対応している。
授業概要
／Course description		 The course is made to introduce students to a variety of research areas in 
languages and linguistics.  We will touch briefly upon areas such as the history of 
language, language acquisition and sociolinguistics so that students can have a 
basic understanding of what is offered in this course before making their decisions 
for course selections.

This syllabus is a guide to the course.  It is not fixed and the pace will be adjusted 
as necessary.
準備学習・履修上の注意
／Notices		 The classes will be conducted in English.  Students will be expected to 
present their research on assigned material on a weekly basis.  Attendance and 
active participation are crucial to passing this course.

Students should expect to spend 1 hour outside of class for review and 
preparation for class each week.
