The aim of this course is to introduce students to principles of the International Society & Culture course. The learning goals in this course are for students to… 1. Get to know classmates and respect them as individuals. 2. Become comfortable writing weekly English opinion and analysis pieces. 3. Become comfortable giving and sharing opinions. 4. Gain confidence in speaking about contemporary and important issues. 5. Improve analytical and critical thinking. 6. Develop research and presentation skills. 7. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 8. Actively participate, discuss, and share with others. |
授業概要 /Course description |
Students will take familiar topics that connect with their own experience and work on viewing them from new perspectives, and thinking about different points of view. Students will develop their own ideas in communication with classmates, and work on being able to express themselves clearly. The course has strong emphases on critical thinking and active output. Students will work on their own research which examines changing aspects of contemporary Japan. |

Each lesson is built on the contents of the previous lesson. As such it is essential that students both come to class and do their homework. If a student cannot come to class, she must email the teacher in advance. The syllabus may change in consultation with students. 1. Come to each class prepared and ready to discuss. 2. Maintain academic honesty and not commit plagiarism (see pages 35, 36, and 37 of the 学生生活ガイドブック for more information). 3. Not use translation software (e.g. Google Translate) to complete assignments. 4. Use a computer and the internet to complete assignments when necessary. 5. Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 6. Respect one another and the teacher. 7. Participate actively and energetically and share opinions with the class. 8. Do their best! Please contact me by email or through Google Classroom with any questions, concerns, or confusion. You are also free to attend my office hours, or set up an online Zoom meeting with me. Generally, I do not answer messages past 8:00pm on weekdays, and I do not answer messages on weekends and holidays. Please keep this in mind. 各回の授業外学習時間(予習・復習)には 4時間程度かかると想定される。 【授業外学修時間の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |
