副題 ／SubTitle	Introduction to American, British and Irish modern poetry
授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	This course aims to: ―Introduce students to some major American, British and Irish poets from the  nineteenth century to the present day. ―Help students learn about the historical and cultural backgrounds of this poetry. ―Develop students' reading and speaking fluency through class discussion and  group presentations. ―Develop students' skills in analysing poetic language and writing about form  and meaning.
授業概要 ／Course description	A literary discussion class which each week asks students to have closely read a modern poem, answered a worksheet to the best of their abilities and be prepared to offer their ideas and opinions in class.
授業計画（授業の形式、スケジュール等） ／Class schedule	Week1：Course orientation, introduction to glossary of poetic terms Week2：How to read and analyse a poem  Week3：Social and historical background of the Romantic poets Week4：William Blake Week5：William Wordsworth Week6：Percy Shelley, Lord Byron Week7：Early modern American poets ― Walt Whitman, Robert Frost Week8：Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickinson Week9：Poetry of World War 1― Wilfrid Owens, Siegfried Sassoon Week10：The Modern Age, historical overview Week11：T.S. Eliot  Week12：W.B. Yeats Week13：Current day writers ― Carol Ann Duffy Week14：Seamus Heaney Week15：Review and final test.
準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	A Japanese/English and English/Japanese dictionary One notebook for class notes and research, another notebook for homework  assignments 授業外学習（予習・復習）には、1週間につき4時間を要する。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。

成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation	【評価方法／Evaluation】 Grades will be based on:  Active participation ― 30% Preparation for class ― 30% Written homework, tests ― 40% Roughly one hour of reading and preparation will be required each week on top of in-class activities.  【評価基準】 授業への参加度：積極的に発言し、授業へ参加している。 課題：授業で扱ったテーマを理解し、真摯に取り組んでいる。 テスト：授業で扱ったテーマに関する問題に解答できる。 【課題（試験やレポート）に対するフィードバックの方法】 課題などにコメント等を返す。
