授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	This course aims to introduce students to Irish history, music, literature and popular  culture using a variety of different materials.
授業概要 ／Course description	Students will develop their reading and speaking fluency through class discussion  and group presentations, also their analytical writing skills in the form of short  comparative essays.
授業計画（授業の形式、スケジュール等） ／Class schedule	1．Orientation―what do you know about Ireland? 2．An introduction to Ireland 3．Symbols and images of Ireland 4．Sightseeing: Natural beauty in Ireland 5．Irish cities and towns 6．True or false 7．History timeline 8．Ancient times―1500 AD 9．Reconquering Ireland 10．Life under British rule 11．Fighting back 12．Significant figures in Irish history 13．The 20th century 14．Irish Comedy- Father Ted 15．Writing exercise, discussion and course feedback.
準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	You will need a Japanese/English dictionary and a notebook for class notes and  homework. 授業外学習（予習・復習）には、1週間につき4時間を要する。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。

成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation	【評価方法／Evaluation】 Evaluation: Classwork: 40% Short Essays: 40% Final essay: 20% This will not be a lecture course where I just talk and you just listen (or sleep!)- be  prepared to do research and participate in group discussions/presentations. Roughly one hour of reading and preparation will be required each week on top of in-class activities.  【評価基準】 classwork：積極的に発言し、授業へ参加している。 short essays：授業で扱ったテーマを理解し、真摯に取り組んでいる。 【課題（試験やレポート）に対するフィードバックの方法】 課題などにコメント等を返す。
