On this course, you will learn some basic techniques used in translating Japanese texts into English and explore concepts unique to Japan and how they are expressed in English. この授業はディプロマポリシー中の「異文化と自文化とを見渡す豊かな教養をもとに、多様な人々と協働し、対話する能力を身につけている。」に対応している。 |
| 授業概要 ／Course description |
We look into some aspects of meaning, form and discourse and how they differ in Japanese and English, using translations from Japanese Traditions in Simple English. Students will be expected to translate sections of this book both in class and at home without referring to the translations offered in the book. The language of instruction will be in English and Japanese. |

Students will translate one page from the textbook each week. The latter part of the coursework will be dedicated to a translation project. Homework will take four hours every week. 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |

| 成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation |
【評価方法】 Evaluation will be based on attendance and participation (20%), Self-evaluation on adaptability to the new learning environment under the influence of COVID 19 (10%) Translation portfolios (40%) and reports (30%). You have to score 60% overall to pass. 【評価基準】 You must submit all your translations on Manabacourse by Week 15. 10% of the grade for portfolios will be deducted if submitted late. 【課題に対するフィードバックの方法】 課題などについて授業にて解説する |

You will all have a group project assignment. Effective communication amongst the group members is important in this class. You will be required to do your work on a computer on Microsoft Word so that you can learn how to edit your work. Doing your translations on your mobile phone will not be sufficient to complete the course. |
