授業概要 /Course description |
Students will research, analyse, discuss and write about contemporary social issues using quantitative and qualitative data. Work will be conducted primarily as small group discussion. Students will choose an area of contemporary Japanese society for quantitative research using google forms. Students will work in groups for their surveys unless they plan to use the data in a graduation report or thesis in which case it can be individual work |

Week 1: Introduction, qualitative and quantitative research. Week 2: Writing good surveys - introducing google forms for surveys + the structure of a report. Week 3: Survey analysis 1 & Brainstorming Week 4: Survey analysis 2 & Researching and Identifying a target group Week 5: Survey analysis 3. & Formulating Questions Week 6: Survey analysis - "Study Abroad in Japan" investigating evidence Week 7: Survey analysis - "Study Abroad in Japan", mixing qualitative and quantitative Week 8: Survey analysis - "English learning during online learning" analysing questions. Week 9: Survey analysis - "English learning during online learning" interpreting data Week 10: Internet cafe refugees - Comprehension and discussion. Week 11: Internet cafe refugees - As the basis for a survey Week 12: Presentation preparation Week 13: Research projects presentations & discussion, Groups 1 & 2 Week 14: Research projects presentations & discussion, Group 3 & 4 Week 15: Research projects presentations & discussion, Groups 5 & 6 |

It's really important to come every week, because one class leads into the next. # If you can't come to class, you need to email before the class and make sure you contact classmates to catch up the work. # Students will research regularly for homework. # Students are expected to embrace ISC values such as communication, cooperation, community, and respect. The syllabus may change in consultation with students. #This course is strongly recommended for students who want to do surveys in their graduation report / thesis. Group work. Recommended for students doing a survey in their graduation report. Students do group work with sempai and kouhai. Students must be active and positive with English.
