副題 ／SubTitle	Looking at History and Japan from Different Perspectives
授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	- Deepen existing knowledge. - Develop visual literacy - Develop media literacy - Expressing opinions based on evidence and analysis.  - Appreciate that history has a variety of perspectives. - Understand history has an effect on contemporary society and international relations - Devise solutions to reduce international misunderstanding - Evaluate approaches to history education in the school system - Connect with history through interviewing someone from an older generation.
授業概要 ／Course description	This course is designed to introduce students to some snapshots of formative episodes in modern international Japanese history, particularly events that are connected to Japan's foreign policy. The course will include historiography and different  interpretations of the same event. Students are strongly encouraged to research themselves to compare historical interpretations.
授業計画（授業の形式、スケジュール等） ／Class schedule	Week 1: Introduction  What is history? Past experience Week 2: What is history? Finding and choosing information / interviewing skills Week 3: What is history? Comparing accounts  Week 4: What is history? Evaluating Week 5: What is history? Visual Analysis Week 6: Historical Memory: Hideyoshi in Korea Week 7:  Historical Memory: Memories of War Week 8: Historical Memory: Contemporary disputes   Week 9: Historical Memory: Asian Games Week 10: War in movies: the past and present Week 11: World War II:  background and incidents Week 12: World War II: looking at textbooks Week 13: History and education: What to teach, how to teach? Week 14: History and education: Basic Education Law Week 15: History and education: Wrap up.
準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	Students are expected to  - Come to class, and in the event of unavoidable absence, to notify the teacher prior to the lesson. - Do homework thoughtfully & thoroughly as it forms the base of class discussion. - Work positively and co-operatively with classmates. - Be curious and questioning and interested. - Do research and write it up as a report 授業外学習（予習・復習・授業内で指示した課題への取り組み）には、1週間につき4時間を要する。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。
