授業概要 /Course description |
In this course, students will examine how ideas about gender, including gender roles and gender stereotypes, are represented in various forms of Japanese popular culture, and how these can impact their everyday lives. Students will consider how popular culture affects and reinforces ideas about gender roles and sterotypes, and how these ideas are both produced and consumed constantly within contemporary Japanese life. This class will focus on case studies from everyday life, food culture, and advertising. More broadly, students will learn to think critically about popular culture and how it affects and is affected by society. The final assessment will check students’ understanding of the course materials and their ability to apply what they have learned. This course covers many topics split over two semesters. It continues from Japanese Pop Culture A. Students are strongly encouraged to take Japanese Pop Culture A first if they want to take this course. |
