授業のねらいと達成目標 /Course Objectives |
In this class, students will learn how to critically analyze the nonmaterial aspects of contemporary Japanese culture. Through data, readings, and other materials, students will learn how culture permeates all aspects of our lives, explore the myths and realities of Japanese society and culture, and investigate the ways in which people are working to make a more just and equitable society. Final projects will focus on a specific social issue in Japan. The main learning goals of this course are to: 1) Develop analytical and critical thinking skills in relation to culture and social problems in Japan. 2) Learn about how Japanese culture manifests itself in society as well as how people and organizations are providing solutions to social problems. 3) Become more confident doing research and presentation in English. |

授業概要 /Course description |
In this course, we examine how various aspects of nonmaterial culture affect people's lives in Japan and through this lens how we can better understand the social problems that exist in Japan today. Students will explore the problems we have in society as well as some of the ways in which people are working towards justice and equity, using data and case studies. |

Each lesson is built on the contents of the previous lesson. As such it is essential that students actively participate and do all of their preparations and homework on time. The syllabus may change in consultation with students. In this course, students are expected to: 1) Use a computer and the internet to complete assignments. 2) Appreciate diversity and difference of opinion and background. 3) Respect one another and the teacher. 4) Participate actively and energetically and share opinions with the class. 5) Do their best! 各回の授業外学習時間(予習・復習)には4時間程度かかると想定されます。 【授業外学修の内容】 ・(予習)次回に取り扱うトピックに関して、Google Classroom上に掲示されているreading materialを読んで概要をつかんで出席すること。 ・(復習)授業後は講義内容をふまえたうえで、重要な概念に関する英語の単語や表現を復習し、気づいた点や問いをまとめること。また、授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |

【評価方法】 1) Final Project 50% 2) Final Presentation 10% 3) Active Participation, Classwork, & Groupwork 40% 【評価基準】 1) Clear effort and deep thinking are required to receive good grades on all assignments and classwork. Additionally, final project will require research and analysis. 2) Students must come to class prepared and actively participate every week. 【課題に対するフィードバックの方法】 Feedback will be provided on Google Classroom unless otherwise noted. |
