Students will learn English listening and speaking skills, while engaging in the communicative exchanges which occur naturally in the discourse framework introduced with the topic contents. この授業はディプロマ・ポリシーの「3：現代社会に求められる外国語学習を通じ、 異文化への深い理解のために必須な能力を身につけている」 および 「6：専攻する言語について、高度なコミュニケーション能力を身につけている」に対応している。 At the end of this course students will: 1) improve their general reading and comprehension skills 2) increase their vocabulary at the intermediate at a minimum 3) enhance their skills of expansion reading and research 4) expand their knowledge on topics directly related to their lives 5) develop critical thinking skills and be able to formulate opinions on topics read |
| 授業概要 ／Course description |
This is a 4-skills course that introduces students to critical readings, comprehension and discussion activities on Japanese society and popular culture. Through reading the course textbook, doing the activities, and researching related topics on the Internet and other media sources students will expand their vocabulary, general cultural knowledge and develop their research skills. |

To succeed in this course, students must do the pre-lesson required readings. Keeping an open mind and showing a positive attitude help greatly in doing well. Of course, regular attendance is paramount; at least two-thirds attendance is required to obtain the course credit. At least three hours of out-of-class pre and post lesson preparation and review are required. 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の予習と振り返りを行うこと。授業において指示した課題を行うこと。 |

【評価方法】 The final grade will be based on: Active Participation:10% Periodical Vocabulary Quizzes: 20% Research, Summary, Analysis, Oral Reports:50% Final Exam: Grammar and Vocabulary 20% 【評価基準】 Review Activities: Students are expected to demonstrate their understanding of the skills taught. 【課題(試験やレポート)に対するフィードバックの方法】 Feedback: Brief individual feedback will be given after each assignment and extended feedback done during the final class of review and consultation. |
