副題 ／SubTitle	Fantasy 2 (Origins to 1950) Are you a fan of ancient myths or The Lord of the Rings? This course allows you to engage with one of the most vibrant literary genres of the last two centuries, fantasy! The course will focus on the origins of the fantasy genre and include a novel study of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien .
授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	Students will improve their English listening and speaking skills, while engaging in the communicative exchanges which occur naturally in the discourse framework associated with the topic contents. To develop students' knowledge of fantasy literature in English from Greek and Roman mythology to 1950. Introduce students to a range of contemporary theories of fantasy and the fantastic. Through regular reading circles, encourage students to engage critically with a text and improve communication skills like summarizing and asking questions that spark discussion. Provide opportunity to develop students' research and essay writing skills. Give students an opportunity to focus on different elements of fiction and to practice in those particular areas out of context. Included in this type of assignment will be not only writing exercises, but world building as well.
授業概要 ／Course description	Upon completion of this course, you will have increased ability to communicate in English. You will have developed communicative life skills, like drawing conclusions and explaining ideas, that go beyond simple English language study and help you to communicate in an international setting.  The material practiced in this course will reinforce the skills you are developing in other English classes.
