副題 ／SubTitle	Developing Research Skills & Preparing for the Graduation Thesis
授業のねらいと達成目標 ／Course Objectives	This class will help students to develop confidence in expressing themselves in English both orally and in written form and help them prepare to write their graduation thesis. More broadly, this class is to help students develop knowledge, critical thinking, analytical ability, and their overall command of English.  The main learning goals for this class are: 1. To learn what a graduation thesis is and what is required to write one. 2. To develop an understanding of research topics, questions, and methods, and how to choose them appropriately. 3. To develop independent research skills and the ability to self-motivate. 4. To begin writing a graduation thesis and have an understanding about how to proceed in the next semester.
授業概要 ／Course description	In this class, we will work on developing research skills and preparing for the graduation thesis. After completing this class, students will be prepared to conduct their research during the summer vacation.  Students will work together to develop a solid understanding of what the graduation thesis is, what is required, and how they need to work on it, including refreshing their English writing skills.
授業計画（授業の形式、スケジュール等） ／Class schedule	第1回：How do we do research? Basic Ideas 第2回：Thinking about the Thesis: How to Write an Introduction  第3回：Analyzing Former Introductions  第4回：Choosing a Topic and Forming a Research Question  第5回：What is the best way to research my topic? Methods & Ideas 第6回：Progress Presentation: Topics, Possible Methods & Sources 第7回：Finding Sources – What is a reliable source? 第8回：Finding Sources – Using the Library to Research 第9回：Forming an Outline—What is my structure? 第10回： Forming an Outline— Peer Review & Discussion  第11回： Introduction – What topics are necessary for my introduction? 第12回： Introduction – Writing & Peer Discussion 第13回： Literature Review – What topics do I need? 第14回： Literature Review – Creating a Structure 第15回：Setting Summer Goals & Making Schedules; Submit at least 750 words of the thesis
準備学習・履修上の注意 ／Notices	This class is very heavily participation based, so active attendance and finishing all prepwork on time is mandatory. If a student will miss a class, she must contact the teacher in advance and make up all necessary work promptly. 1. Students are expected to participate fully and do their best, so everyone can write great theses. Thoughtful peer discussion and feedback is essential for creating a positive learning environment for everyone to grow and develop well.   2. Students are expected to maintain regular deadlines and be prepared to contribute actively to peer discussions sessions each week.  3. Students are expected to use their best English and not use translation software (e.g., Google Translate, Deepl) or generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to complete assignments, except when specifically required or directed to do so. The schedule may change in consultation with students. 各回の授業外学習時間（予習・復習）には 4時間程度かかると想定される。 【授業外学修の内容】 毎回の授業の振り返りを行うこと。指示した課題を行うこと。

成績評価の方法 ／Evaluation	【評価方法】 70% Active Participation, Group Work, & Preparation 30% Timely Thesis Progress & Meeting Set Deadlines  【評価基準】 Grading is based on students’ active participation and timely progress on their theses.  Grades will be assigned based on students’ efforts in class and in completing assignments, and on timeliness in meeting deadlines.  【課題に対するフィードバックの方法】 One-on-one feedback will be provided in class and through written feedback through Google Drive and Google Classroom.
